The Beginning History of the NFL
The modern football began when Rutgers and Princetonplayed a college soccer football game on November 6, 1869. The teams used modified London Football Association rules and during the next seven years, the game gained favor with the major eastern schools over soccer. Modern day Football was then born. The first ever rules for the American Football League was written at the Massasoit Convention. Walter Camp was known as the Father of American Football. In 1892, an era in which football was a major event of local athletic clubs, the Allegheny Athletic Association (AAA) and the Pittsburgh Athletic Club (PAC). Competition between two Pittsburgh area clubs led to the making of the first professional football player. William Heffelfinger. Heffelfinger was paid $500.00 by the AAA to play a game against the PAC.
